It’s official. Everyone I know is getting married. Everyone. Maybe with a few exceptions who are getting mortgages together and who are all ready married and starting families.
I mean…crap! When did we all grow up? Seriously? How did this happen?
Never one to go with the flow, I’ve done all my bearing of children and settling down for the most part but I still have marriage to tick of my arse-about-face list of normal shit I’d actually quite like to try.
This is not through lack of trying.
I don’t know what it is recently as I’ve never been really into the idea – all though it may have something to do with being unable to shitting well escape it – but I am so ready for it. Anyway, my cards are well and truly on the table so fingers crossed he doesn’t realise (or at least mind) the extent of the crazy before I catch him in my deadly snare of love and legal documentation.
Anyhow, being part of the planning of other people’s weddings has got me to thinking about how I would do it. I’m a bridesmaid for an old friend and I never before realised the extent of all the stuff you have to do for just a single day. It seems stressfull, and in truth I’d probably rather not go for anything huge – I’d care far more about the honeymoon – as I’m one of those all or nothing types, but I do love a good project…
Here are a few of my picks from Etsy, from talented and creative individuals which I would go for if I did go all in.
As always, click the pic to go to the item page.
P.S. As an after note to this post, I feel extremely weird, quite sick and slightly like a genuine nutter thinking this much about a wedding I may never have. in fact I had to stop a few times for a breather – if it ever comes to it I’m definitely eloping.
Invitations: I adore botanical illustration and these are just beautiful. Maybe a little too beautiful, so I’d personally have to have them say something subversive.
The Rings: Always a sucker for a unique, handmade ring. No occasion necessary… Rose gold is my favourite but I’m in love with the oxidised silver too. Yes, there’s some gap in the price range! Recycled metals and conflict-free stones…
Seating Plan: because if you do invite all those guests, they need order, people! And what better way to coax people into sitting next to all those other people they hate than cute animals? Love these illustrations.
To Wear: I have to admit that decent suits aren’t in abundance over on Etsy, but there are dresses galore. I’d go for simple and elegant with a hint of grunge. Not sure I could have flowers in my hair without looking like a bit of a twat, though.
Guests: I like the idea of postcards rather than a guest book, and all everyone ever wants for favours is sweets, right?
I know, I’d plan a terrible wedding. I need to figure out this whole ‘theme’ thing.
Psst. I also have a dedicated Pinterest board.
